You see this nasty armbar? Damian Stasiak describes cranking Davey Grant’s limb at UFC 204

MANCHESTER, England – Damian Stasiak took his lumps against Davey Grant. Those lumps, though, were nothing compared to the crushing Grant’s arm experienced.

Grant (10-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) tagged Stasiak (10-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) repeatedly in the second round of Saturday’s UFC 204 clash. However, Grant left an opening, and Stasiak pounced by locking in an armbar that nearly completely reversed the direction his elbow bent and forced the tap at the 3:56 mark of Round 3 (via Twitter):

The bantamweight bout was part of the preliminary card of UFC 204 at Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. It aired on FS1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of the main card on pay-per-view.

Following his win, Stasiak described what he felt when he locked in the armbar.

“David is tough,” he said. “But I felt his arms, two times crushed. If he didn’t tap, I knew (I would finish). When he didn’t tap, I finished. I feel very good about this finish.”

Stasiak is one of the fighters at the center of the suddenly booming Polish MMA scene. Led by strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk and top contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz, who challenges for the belt next month at UFC 205, the country is producing more and more fighters who can compete at the highest levels of the sport.

Stasiak said the success is rooted in a sort of shared mentality among the Polish fighters.

“Polish MMA now is growing, but I think it’s one of the best in the world,” Stasiak said. “The Polish guys are very tough. Polish guys never give up, and Polish guys fight to the last second in the fight. It’s the same (with women). Karolina and Joanna are the best girls in the world in MMA.”
